Ukraine Captures Chinese Soldiers Fighting for Russia, Demands Explanation from Beijing!

Kyiv has reportedly captured two Chinese soldiers fighting alongside Russian troops in the eastern Donetsk region, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This startling revelation has prompted Ukraine to summon the Chinese envoy, demanding an explanation and raising serious questions about China's stance on the conflict.

Zelenskyy stated, "We have information that there are much more than two such Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units."

Key Points:

  • Captured Soldiers: Two Chinese nationals were captured in Donetsk, fighting for Russia.
  • China's Stance: China officially claims neutrality but has been accused of supporting Russia.
  • Ukrainian Response: Kyiv demands answers from Beijing, summoning the Chinese envoy.
  • Global Implications: The incident raises concerns about China's credibility and its role in the conflict.

Despite officially calling for a peaceful resolution, China's "no-limits partnership deal" with Russia, signed shortly before the invasion, has fueled suspicions. Furthermore, accusations of China covertly supplying Russia with drone components have added to the controversy.

Zelenskyy emphasized the severity of the situation: "Russia’s involvement of China directly or indirectly in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin is going to do anything but end the war… This definitely needs a reaction. The reaction of the United States, Europe and everyone in the world who wants there to be peace."

While this is the first reported capture of Chinese POWs, there have been previous reports from Russian war bloggers about Chinese volunteers fighting for the Kremlin.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has taken swift action, summoning the Chinese chargé d’affaires to seek clarification. According to Sybiha, "Chinese citizens fighting as part of Russia’s invasion army in Ukraine puts into question China’s declared stance for peace and undermines Beijing’s credibility as a responsible permanent member of the UN Security Council."

The capture of these soldiers and the subsequent diplomatic tension could have significant implications for international relations and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
