Deadly Nightclub Collapse: 15 Killed, Over 100 Injured in Dominican Republic

A night of music and celebration turned into tragedy early Tuesday morning when the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed. The disaster has left at least 15 people dead and over 100 injured, according to local police.

The collapse occurred during a performance, sending shockwaves through the popular club located in the National District. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collapse.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with 101 people transferred to various hospitals. Juan Manuel Mendez, director of Emergency Management Operations, indicated that the number of those hospitalized could be even higher, as ambulances may have transported multiple people at once.

"We are still working, searching for people in the rubble," Mendez stated. "We presume that many of them are still alive, that’s why the authorities here with their teams will not stop until we find the last person in that rubble."

Amidst the devastation, there was a glimmer of hope as singer Rubby Perez was found alive and in stable condition, according to his manager, Evelio Herrera. Herrera urged continued prayers for more survivors to be found.

Images from the scene depict a scene of utter destruction, with the roof in pieces, walls crumbled, and debris scattered throughout the club.

The City’s Mayor expressed condolences to the families of the victims and affirmed that the city’s national disaster response committee is actively involved.

The investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing.
