YouTube TV’s Live Guide redesigned for Android, iOS

YouTube TV Live Guide Redesigned
Live Guide Redesign
  • Key Takeaways:
  • YouTube TV is rolling out a redesigned Live Guide to Android and iOS, matching the TV app’s 2023 layout.
  • The new view increases information density: channel icons on the left, swipe for upcoming shows, and a red “Jump to live” button.
  • Long-pressing a program opens a floating preview sheet with description and actions (Add to library, Set reminder, Go to program, Go to channel).
  • To get the redesign, update the YouTube TV app on Android or iOS and restart the app.

What changed in the Live Guide

The updated Live Guide brings a tighter, more functional layout to YouTube TV’s mobile apps. Channel icons now sit on the left and the grid shows more programs at once, mirroring the redesign YouTube TV introduced on televisions in 2023.

More info at a glance

Programs display run length and remaining time, so you can see whether a show is ending or still has a while to go. Swiping horizontally reveals upcoming shows on each channel without leaving the guide view.

Quick actions and previews

A long press on any program opens a floating preview sheet (not a docked panel) that surfaces the description and quick actions. Available actions include adding the show to your library, setting a reminder, jumping to the program, or navigating to the channel.

The redesign adds a visible “Sort” menu in the top-left of the Live Guide, and a prominent red “Jump to live” button appears at the bottom while you browse—making it easier to return to current broadcasts.

Where the app still differs

Although the Live Guide is updated, YouTube TV’s overall app UI hasn’t fully adopted YouTube’s newest design language. The Library and Home tabs remain unchanged and the legacy icon set is still in the bottom bar.

Availability and how to get it

Google has begun a wide rollout for Android and iOS. If you don’t see the new Live Guide, ensure you’re on the latest YouTube TV release from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, then force-close and reopen the app.

Why it matters

This redesign improves discovery and makes live TV browsing faster on phones, reducing taps to preview, record, or jump into live programming. For cord-cutters and live-TV subscribers, the updated guide brings mobile parity with the improved TV experience.
