Xbox's Mobile Gaming Store: Internal Testing Underway
Microsoft's plans to launch its own mobile gaming store are steadily progressing, with the company confirming internal testing is now underway. Originally slated for release last month, the store is still under development at Xbox, and a public launch date remains unconfirmed.
This confirmation comes following the circulation of an Xbox Insider image online, prompting Kari Perez, Xbox's head of communications, to confirm the testing phase. In a statement, Perez acknowledged the development, saying: "Testing has begun for our browser-based mobile store. Our work is progressing well and we will have more to share in the future."
This move towards a dedicated mobile gaming store aligns with Microsoft's strategy to challenge the dominance of Apple and Google in the mobile market. During the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft highlighted its intention to shift consumer focus away from the current app store giants.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer also hinted at the imminent release of the store last November, suggesting that a public launch could be on the horizon.
While the exact timeline remains unclear, Microsoft's commitment to its mobile gaming store is evident. Xbox Insiders can expect news regarding the store's public release in the near future.
