Tomba! Special Edition: Switch Version Plagued by Glitches?

Limited Run Games' highly anticipated release of the cult classic Tomba! (known as Tombi! in Europe) for the Nintendo Switch arrived on August 1st. However, a substantial bug affecting the Switch version has left some players unable to enjoy the game properly.

Reports of issues with the 1997 PlayStation platformer have surfaced online, ranging from minor hiccups to significant crashes across all platforms. The developers have acknowledged these issues and announced a patch is in the works to address them. However, one of our reviewers encountered a critical problem that has rendered the game unplayable on their Switch.

Reviewer Mitch Vogel has experienced repeated crashes, requiring a hard reset every time the game locks up. These occurrences can happen as frequently as 30 seconds into gameplay, though he managed to play for 15 minutes once. It's a significant obstacle to forming a comprehensive opinion, particularly for a reviewer.

Conversely, our video team, using the same version of the game (1.0.0), has not encountered any of these issues. They've reported a smooth gameplay experience without any crashes or glitches.

We've contacted Limited Run Games for further information and an update on the patch's release date. It's worth noting that Limited Run is currently accepting pre-orders for a physical edition of the game, with shipment scheduled for later this year.

At present, we strongly advise against purchasing the Switch version of Tomba! unless you enjoy the gamble of potentially buying an unplayable game.
