The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a last-minute warning for a heatwave across parts of Romania on 1 August. The alert, issued on 31 July, urges residents to take precautions as temperatures are expected to soar to 36 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a high thermal discomfort index.
The warning, classified as "Code Yellow", highlights the expected heatwave and associated thermal discomfort, particularly affecting the regions of Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, continental Dobrogea, and southern Moldova. The local temperature-humidity index (ITU) in these areas is forecast to reach a critical level of 80 units.
The ANM advises caution when undertaking any travel during the period, recommending that people take necessary steps to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. The heatwave is expected to continue into Friday, 2 August, with the ANM stating that it will provide updates on the situation based on the evolution and intensity of the meteorological phenomena.
The ANM's alert serves as a timely reminder for residents to be aware of the potential health risks associated with extreme heat. The agency encourages individuals to stay informed of the latest weather forecasts and take appropriate measures to protect themselves during this hot spell.
