Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version: A Review in the Making

The Nubia Z60 Ultra, one of the first smartphones to boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, has received a significant upgrade with the release of the "Leading Version". This new iteration features a faster chipset, improved cameras, and a host of AI-powered enhancements, making it a compelling contender in the flagship smartphone market.

Launched in December 2023, the original Z60 Ultra made headlines as one of the first devices to feature the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. However, the following month, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S24 series with an exclusive version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, boasting slightly higher clock speeds.

This exclusivity appears to have ended, with Qualcomm now producing enough units of the faster chipset for other manufacturers. The "for Galaxy" moniker has been replaced by "Leading Version," and Nubia has wasted no time in taking advantage. The refreshed Z60 Ultra, now with an overclocked processor and a suite of AI enhancements, has arrived in our labs for a thorough review.

While the design remains largely unchanged, we're grateful to be reviewing the Silver variant, which sets it apart from the original model. The package includes a protective hard plastic case, a red USB-C cable, and an 80W charger, ensuring a seamless user experience right out of the box.

The Leading Version retains the same camera system as its predecessor, featuring a 50MP 35mm main camera, a 64MP telephoto lens with 85mm equivalent, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. However, Nubia claims to have improved the optics of the main camera and enhanced the performance of the 12MP selfie camera, which sits unobtrusively under the display.

The real star of the show is the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Leading Version boasts a Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.4 GHz, coupled with an Adreno 750 GPU operating at 1 GHz, surpassing the 900 MHz frequency of the original model. Our comprehensive review will delve into the tangible performance benefits these upgrades deliver.

We will also be putting the new NeoVision AI camera features through their paces. Features like AI Blur, AI removal, and AI sky color change promise to elevate the user experience and unlock new creative possibilities.

The Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version promises to be a formidable contender in the high-end smartphone market. We will thoroughly test its performance, camera capabilities, and new AI features to determine whether it justifies its starting price of $599. Stay tuned for our in-depth review, where we will uncover the true potential of this upgraded flagship.
