Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will not be released on the Nintendo Switch, citing the game's reliance on "the latest technology" as the reason.
During a recent shareholder Q&A session, Capcom was questioned about the game's absence on the handheld console. The shareholder pointed out that Wilds was only confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, prompting Capcom to clarify their reasoning.
"One concept we've incorporated into this title is aiming to portray the maximum of the world of Monster Hunter by utilizing the latest technology to its limit," stated Capcom. "To that end, the platforms capable of realizing that concept are currently the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC."
Capcom also indicated that further details regarding these technical aspects would be shared at a later date. This isn't the first time the company has highlighted the ambitious technical scope of Wilds. Earlier this year, director Yuya Tokuda revealed that the game would feature the largest ecosystems ever seen in a Monster Hunter title.
The shareholder Q&A also saw Capcom fielding questions about the game's release date and plans for handling mods and cheats.
When asked why the release date wouldn't be brought forward to December 2024 to potentially increase profits, Capcom responded that they would announce the release date "once preparations are complete."
Regarding mods and cheats, Capcom acknowledged the potential for issues due to the game's cross-play functionality across all platforms. While PC users might be able to modify aspects of the game, console players would not have the same access. Capcom promised to share more information on their approach to this issue in the future.
