Indie Dev Struggles After Humble Games Restructuring Leaves Project In Limbo

The developers behind *Bõ: Path of the Teal Lotus*, the latest release from Humble Games, have revealed they are facing a precarious situation after the publisher's recent restructuring.

In a statement on X/Twitter, Squid Shock, the studio behind the game, explained that they have "lost access to the pipeline of critical systems" following Humble Games' decision to restructure its operations two weeks ago. The restructuring has left the studio struggling to deliver planned post-launch content and facing uncertainty about the future of the project.

"Our launch was not without its challenges," the team stated, "our publisher shutting down has meant we have missed out on critical post-launch support which may put our studio’s future at risk."

The team clarified that they hold no blame for the situation towards the Humble Games team they worked with, acknowledging the difficult climate within the gaming industry. However, they highlight the critical impact on their project: "We want to make it crystal clear that this was in no way the fault of the Humble Games team we worked with. It is just a sad time in the industry and ultimately, we understand."

Squid Shock further explained that while they managed to push out a Steam update, access to console versions has been severed. "Porting and QA Support was tied into our deal with our publisher and at the time of writing we still do not have that pipeline restored," they added.

Following reports of a sudden shutdown last month, Humble Games released a statement asserting that the company is "not shutting down" and that "upcoming releases are not affected" despite undergoing restructuring. However, former Humble Games staff have refuted this statement, arguing that it downplays the impact of the restructuring on the team.

The situation highlights the vulnerabilities faced by indie developers relying on publisher support, especially during periods of industry upheaval. Squid Shock's plea for support through Patreon underscores the financial challenges developers face when facing such unexpected setbacks. The future of *Bõ: Path of the Teal Lotus

remains uncertain, leaving fans and industry observers alike to wonder about the implications for other projects within the Humble Games portfolio.
