Fallout: London Shatters Records, Becomes GOG's Fastest-Downloaded Game Ever

Fallout: London, the ambitious Fallout 4 mod that transports players to a post-apocalyptic London, has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the "fastest redeemed game of all time" on GOG.com. This expansion-sized mod, released just two weeks ago, has garnered massive attention, with over 500,000 downloads within the first 24 hours of its release.

GOG, in a press release issued on Friday, hailed Fallout: London's success as a testament to the power of passion and creativity in gaming. The platform highlighted the mod's ability to offer fresh and exciting experiences within the Fallout universe.

This achievement has spurred the mod's developers, Team Folon, to take their passion project to the next level. In an interview with the BBC, they announced plans to establish their own game development studio, utilising the overwhelming support received for Fallout: London. Despite being a free mod, the team has been accepting donations, which they intend to leverage for their new venture.

"We're channelling that [support] into Team Folon, which is what we're going to be moving into, and then we should hopefully launch our own indie games company," Dean Carter, Team Folon's lead, explained.

Originally announced in June 2021, Fallout: London promised a DLC-sized experience set between the events of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. The mod immerses players in a radiated, post-apocalyptic London, complete with its own unique characters, locations, and quests.

The development journey for Fallout: London was not without its challenges. Two delays were necessary, the first to avoid a clash with Bethesda's Starfield and the second to ensure compatibility with a potential next-gen update for Fallout 4.

Despite its success, Fallout: London has not been without its growing pains. GOG acknowledged the complexity of the installation process, which posed a challenge for some users. Additionally, the mod is incompatible with the Epic Games Store version of Fallout 4, due to EGS's lack of support for update rollbacks.

For players eager to experience Fallout: London on Steam, IGN has provided a detailed guide to ensure a smooth installation process.

Fallout: London's remarkable success has cemented its position as a landmark mod, proving the immense potential of dedicated development teams in creating engaging and unique experiences for players. Its impact extends beyond its impressive download numbers, serving as a springboard for Team Folon's aspirations to establish their own game development studio.
