Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition Pulled From Sale After Free "The Beast" Offer
Techland has announced that the Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will be removed from sale on 30 September 2024. This decision comes after the developer promised owners of the Ultimate Edition free access to the standalone game, Dying Light: The Beast.
The developer revealed the news on X/Twitter, explaining that the Ultimate Edition, which originally included the "Story DLC 2", will no longer be available for purchase. However, those who already own the Ultimate Edition or purchase it before the 30th of September will still receive all its features and benefits, including the free copy of The Beast.
Dying Light: The Beast, originally conceived as a Story DLC for Dying Light 2, has evolved into a full-fledged four-player cooperative title. It boasts a different gameplay experience, leaning more towards a first-person shooter than the survival horror gameplay of its predecessor.
Techland confirmed that The Beast will be offered at no extra cost to all owners of the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition. "Dying Light: The Beast is a full standalone adventure that started life as DLC 2," they stated on X/Twitter, adding, "Thank you for your patience and we hope you like what weâre cooking up."
The offer seems to be specifically targeted at players who bought the Ultimate Edition with the expectation of receiving the second Story DLC, rather than a general giveaway for all Dying Light fans.
It remains unclear what the final price of The Beast will be, with Techland initially announcing a £31.99 price tag before stating that information was incorrect. The Ultimate Edition Upgrade, meanwhile, costs £27.99.
In its review of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, IGN stated: "Dying Light 2 Stay Human is an ambitious zombie action adventure that's packed with top-notch parkour, an awesome open world, and every painful bug in the book." This assessment was made before Techland implemented numerous patches to address the game's issues.
With the removal of the Ultimate Edition from sale, fans hoping to experience both Dying Light 2 and The Beast will need to purchase the Standard Edition of Dying Light 2 and then acquire The Beast separately. It remains to be seen how the availability of The Beast will be handled once the Ultimate Edition is no longer on sale.
