Diablo 4 Players Unearth "Ring of Misfortune" After Year-Long Quest – And It's a Dud

A group of dedicated Diablo 4 players, united in the "Not Finding A Cow Level Discord" community, have cracked one of the game's most enduring mysteries. After months of speculation and theorising, they uncovered a new event and a unique ring, previously only seen in datamined files. The journey to this elusive prize, however, reveals a treasure that might not be worth the effort.

The quest began with triggering an event in the Scosglen area, where a hapless soldier NPC meets an untimely end at the hands of monsters. For players to proceed, a Greed Shrine must be active during the event, and each player in a five-person group must be a different class. Adding another layer of complexity, a "lucky hit" stat of 50% or above significantly increases the odds of obtaining a Lucky Coin, the key to unlocking this hidden reward.

If successful, players are granted a Lucky Coin with the flavour text "Hopefully it brings better luck for you than it did its previous owner." It's a grim memento of the soldier's demise, setting the stage for the final act of this arduous quest.

Five players, Jimpen, Ecledia, Tweaked, Teire, and Raffi1337, managed to secure the required Lucky Coins. They then converged at a wishing well east of Cerrigar in Scosglen, where they each dropped their coins into the well, granting them the "Well-Wisher" title. A sudden meteor shower followed, culminating in the much-anticipated "Ring of Misfortune" dropping for each player.

The Ring of Misfortune, however, fails to live up to the hype surrounding its discovery. While offering decent stats with +13 to various attributes and resistances, its main feature, the "Lucky Hit" modifier, is less than desirable. It randomly triggers a chance for the wearer to lose all their resources, leaving them vulnerable and potentially stranded in the middle of a fight.

The ring's unique characteristic, however, is its permanent status. Players are unable to sell, trade, or salvage the ring, meaning it's permanently bound to the character who earns it. This has led to speculation about its potential connection to Diablo 4's elusive cow level, a coveted secret that has sparked endless speculation and online communities dedicated to uncovering its location.

While the Ring of Misfortune may not be the game-changing item some hoped for, its discovery signifies a continued commitment to exploring the hidden depths of Diablo 4's world. This recent revelation, combined with the successful "Loot Reborn" event and the ongoing Season 5 content, suggests a renewed focus on player engagement and a commitment to continually improve the gameplay experience.
