Canyon's New CFR Helmets: Ditch the Straps, Embrace the HighBar
Canyon has unveiled two innovative CFR helmets, the Disruptr CFR and the Stingr CFR, both boasting the groundbreaking HighBar closure system. This unique design marks a significant departure from traditional helmet straps, promising improved safety, comfort, and performance.
Canyon claims that the HighBar system addresses a critical concern: helmet fit. Unlike conventional straps, the HighBar system features rigid plastic arms that connect to a pivot point near the ear, providing a secure and consistent fit that prevents the helmet from tilting backwards. This eliminates the need for constant adjustments and ensures the helmet stays securely in place, offering crucial protection.
Beyond safety, the HighBar system delivers noticeable advantages in aerodynamics and thermodynamics. Canyon touts reduced drag and improved airflow, leading to a cooler head. Wind tunnel testing indicates the system can decrease ear noise by 6-7.5dB, enhancing the rider's experience.
The CFR branding signifies the pinnacle of Canyon's engineering prowess. Both helmets are meticulously designed for high performance, with the Disruptr CFR prioritising ventilation for all-day riding, while the Stingr CFR focuses on aerodynamic efficiency for racing.
Canyon boasts that the Stingr CFR, with its aero-optimised shape and the benefits of the HighBar system, can save riders 10-20 watts at speeds between 60-70 km/h, translating to a 33-second advantage over 100km.
Both helmets feature innovative vent designs, drawing on wind tunnel and computational fluid dynamics testing to maximise cooling. Canyon highlights the adoption of these helmets by top athletes, including multi-time world champion triathlete Jan Frodeno, gravel racing champion Carolin Schiff, and Olympic MTB athlete Luca Schwarzbauer.
The Disruptr CFR and Stingr CFR are available now in sizes small, medium, and large, priced at â¬299.95. While Canyon's online store offers convenient purchase, their Factory Service locations in Europe and North America provide the opportunity for hands-on inspection.
The choice between the Disruptr CFR and the Stingr CFR hinges on individual priorities. The Disruptr CFR, with its emphasis on ventilation and usability, offers a magnetic port for a Canyon rear light with five modes and up to 30 hours of runtime. Conversely, the Stingr CFR, designed for racing, boasts superior aerodynamics at the cost of fewer vents and the absence of a light option.
Canyon's CFR helmets, with their innovative HighBar system and focused design, are poised to redefine the cycling helmet landscape. Whether riders prioritise comfort and ventilation or seek to shave precious seconds off their race times, the Disruptr CFR and Stingr CFR offer compelling options to enhance their riding experience.
