Atari 7800 Plus: Retro Gaming Returns with a Modern Twist

Remember the golden age of gaming? Atari is bringing back the iconic 7800, offering a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a modern twist. The Atari 7800 Plus, a reimagining of the classic 1986 console, is now available for pre-order at £104, promising to reignite the pixelated fun of yesteryear.

This updated console boasts a range of modern features, including HDMI connectivity for seamless integration with contemporary TVs. No need for bulky CRT screens – the 7800 Plus seamlessly blends vintage gaming with modern convenience.

The 7800 Plus follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, featuring backwards compatibility with Atari 2600 games. Fans can relive classic titles like Pitfall, Journey Escape and Frogger, dusting off their forgotten cartridges or picking up fresh ones from the plethora of available options. For those seeking a more authentic 2600 experience, the Atari 2600 Plus, released in 2023, offers a dedicated retro gaming experience.

Atari Chairman and CEO, Wade Rosen, highlighted the significance of this release, stating, "Expanding the Atari+ platform with new games, new wireless controllers, and the 7800+ console is a perfect follow-up to last year's successful launch of the Atari 2600+."

The 7800 Plus comes bundled with one wireless gamepad, with additional controllers available for £28. A wireless joystick can also be purchased for £28, providing alternative control options for those who prefer the classic feel.

Beyond the console itself, a selection of Atari 7800 and 2600 games are available, including the likes of Asteroids Deluxe, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Frenzy, Space Duel and the iconic Berzerk.

The original Atari 7800 was launched in 1986 as the successor to the Atari 2600 and Atari 5200, before being discontinued in 1992. Now, the 7800 Plus is poised to reignite the gaming spirit of a generation, offering a nostalgic escape into a world of pixelated adventures.
