Amazon Games Boss Confirms Switch 2 Support, Praises Nintendo's Console

Amazon Games CEO Christoph Hartmann has revealed that the company is planning to bring its titles to the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, praising the current Switch as a "great device" and expressing his patience for the next-gen console's release.

Hartmann's statement, given during an exclusive interview with IGN, comes as gamers eagerly await news on the Switch 2, which is expected to launch sometime after April 2025. The Amazon Games boss acknowledged the excitement surrounding the new console, stating, "Yeah, we obviously plan to develop games for it and I can't wait for it to be out."

He further emphasised the importance of ensuring a polished release, adding, "Honestly, I'd rather have them wait a year and get it perfect than rush it to the market and then we all complain about what doesn't work. Switch has been such a fantastic product, I can wait another year if I have to."

This statement is significant as Amazon Games hasn't yet released any titles on a Nintendo platform. While their current portfolio mainly consists of PC games like New World and Lost Ark, the company is set to launch Throne and Liberty on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later this year.

Hartmann's confirmation of Switch 2 support strengthens the platform's appeal for developers, particularly given the lack of concrete information about the console's specifications and release date. Speculation has suggested that the Switch 2 could potentially handle the demanding Matrix Unreal Engine 5 demo, hinting at a powerful next-gen console.

While the official launch date remains uncertain, Nintendo typically unveils its plans at its annual September Nintendo Direct event, potentially offering a clearer picture of the Switch 2's progress.

In the meantime, Nintendo has a packed schedule for the autumn, including highly anticipated releases like Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Looking further ahead, the release of Metroid Prime 4 is expected sometime in 2025.

Hartmann's interview with IGN also touched on a range of other topics, including his thoughts on the future of Tomb Raider, the Lord of the Rings MMO, and the impact of artificial intelligence in gaming.

With the promise of Amazon Games joining the Switch 2 line-up, the future of Nintendo's console appears even brighter, offering gamers a diverse range of titles to explore on the innovative handheld platform.
