Wycombe Set for Rotation in EFL Trophy Trip to Wimbledon

Wycombe Wanderers are set to field a rotated squad for their EFL Trophy clash against Wimbledon this evening, as manager Gareth Ainsworth aims to manage player workloads and provide opportunities for fringe players. The Chairboys travel to Plough Lane for their first match in the competition since losing last season's final to Peterborough United.

Ainsworth confirmed that a number of young prospects from the development squad are expected to feature in the match, alongside senior players who have yet to make a significant impact this season or have limited game time under their belts.

The decision to rotate comes after Wycombe's 3-2 defeat to Birmingham City at Adams Park on Saturday. Addressing the media following the loss, Ainsworth explained the reasoning behind the changes: "We have to [rotate and make changes]. We've got injuries, and we need to protect the players who have played three games in a week. We've also got important fixtures coming up against Rotherham, Blackpool, and a long trip to Swansea. We have a busy schedule, and there are some other young players in the squad who deserve a chance to impress. It'll give them an opportunity to step up."

The match against Wimbledon kicks off at 7:45pm, providing an opportunity for the Chairboys to gain valuable experience and build momentum ahead of their upcoming league fixtures. While the result may not be the primary focus, the match will be a chance for several players to showcase their abilities and potentially earn themselves a place in Ainsworth's first-team plans.
