Wycombe Boss Hints at Changes for EFL Trophy Trip to Wimbledon
Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has indicated that he will make significant changes to his starting lineup for the club's EFL Trophy clash against Wimbledon. The Chairboys travel to Plough Lane on Tuesday evening for their first game in the competition since their defeat to Peterborough United in last season's final.
Bloomfield's decision to rotate his squad comes in the wake of a 3-2 home loss to Birmingham City over the weekend, where several players featured in their third game in a week. He highlighted the need to manage player workload, with crucial upcoming fixtures against Rotherham United, Blackpool and Swansea City on the horizon.
"We have to [rotate and make changes]," Bloomfield stated. "We've got injuries, we've got players that we have to protect as they've gone three games in a week. We've also got some big games coming up in Rotherham and Blackpool, and we've obviously got the long trip to Swansea as well."
He continued, "We've got lots and lots of games, and there are some other young players in the squad who deserve an opportunity to impress. So we have to make changes, as it'll also give other players a chance."
The match at Plough Lane is expected to see a number of development players given a chance to showcase their talents. Players who have yet to make an appearance this season, along with those who have accumulated minimal minutes, are also likely to feature.
The game kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, providing an opportunity for Wycombe to field a rotated side while aiming for a positive result in their opening EFL Trophy encounter.
