WNBA Star's Designer Outfits Cost a Staggering £16,000 - More Than 30% of Her Salary
Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever's star rookie, has been turning heads both on and off the court since the WNBA season resumed following the Olympic break. While she's making a name for herself with her impressive skills on the court, Clark is also attracting attention for her stylish pre-game outfits. However, it seems these high-fashion choices come at a hefty price.
Reports have surfaced revealing that Clark's pre-game ensembles for two recent games cost a combined £16,000, a staggering sum that amounts to more than 30% of her base WNBA salary.
For the Fever's victory against the Phoenix Mercury, Clark sported a grey blazer and matching trousers from Golden Goose, costing £840 and £520 respectively. She completed the look with a pair of Nike Dunks, priced at around £90, bringing the total outfit cost to £1,450.
However, it was her pre-game outfit for the following game against the Seattle Storm that truly broke the bank. This time, Clark opted for head-to-toe designer Veronica Beard, including a £310 navy and white striped shirt and matching £330 wide-leg trousers.
But the real extravagance came in the accessories. Clark accessorised with a Versace Medusa small tote bag, costing £1,160 according to social media account "A Fast Break," and a pair of £90 Nike Air Force Ones. She also appeared to be wearing a Rolex watch and John Hardy bracelets, estimated to be worth around £11,700 and £2,300 respectively, bringing the total cost of the outfit to a staggering £16,490.
The exact model of Rolex Clark was wearing is not confirmed.
The revelation of these extravagant outfits comes just a week after Clark seemingly expressed frustration about her WNBA salary. Following the Fever's win over the Storm, Clark and teammate Lexie Hull were asked if they would be buying season tickets for their families.
Clark responded, "Those are pretty expensive. Our salaries... it is like our entire salary to get those. I'm not kidding. We need people to help."
Hull added, "I might have to (get tickets). We'll make sure that people get working on that. We'll have someone work on that for sure."
Clark's base salary for her rookie WNBA season is £60,000. However, she also has an eight-year deal with Nike worth £22 million. Her estimated net worth is currently around £2.3 million.
Hull, who signed a three-year, £160,000 deal with the Fever, earns £61,000 this season, slightly more than Clark.
While season ticket prices for the Fever start at around £1,250, Clark's rising popularity and the Fever's success are likely to drive prices up in the future.
Clark's first WNBA contract with the Fever spans four years and is worth a total of £265,000. Her salary increases to £61,000 in her second year and £67,000 in her third. If her fourth-year option is exercised, Clark will earn £76,000.
However, Clark's lucrative brand deals, including her eight-year, £22 million Nike shoe contract, a partnership with Wilson, and NIL contracts from her college days as an Iowa Hawkeye, likely mean that she doesn't have to rely on her WNBA salary to fund her designer outfits.
