Van Pelt's Influence: Patriots' Offense Embraces New Era Under Experienced Coordinator

The players were curious about the origin, and Van Pelt revealed it was from his own playing days at the University of Pittsburgh. He then proceeded to break down the play, showcasing how he still uses these techniques as teaching tools.

"When he pulled it up, everyone was like, 'Who is that?' When they realised it was AVP, everybody started hooting and hollering," quarterback Bailey Zappe recalled.

Van Pelt's infectious energy and his ability to relate to the players have been key in establishing a strong team culture within the offence. Head coach Jerod Mayo, who describes Van Pelt as the "head coach of the offence," has been incredibly impressed by his leadership and the impact he has had on the team.

Mayo stated, "We're on the same page. I have nothing but complete faith in AVP and the rest of the staff. He's just one of those steady guys. A big play, he doesn't get too high. A bad play, he doesn't get too low. I think you need that in your coordinators."

Van Pelt is running a West Coast-style offence featuring wide-zone run concepts, a departure from previous offensive schemes. He has a wealth of experience, having served as offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns and working with notable quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson. This experience, combined with his natural leadership qualities, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Patriots' offensive resurgence.

One of the key challenges facing Van Pelt is navigating the quarterback situation. Veteran Jacoby Brissett is currently the starter, but rookie Drake Maye, the third overall pick in the draft, has been making strides. Mayo has yet to announce a starting quarterback for the regular season opener, stating he will make a decision after the preseason.

"There's still a process of how you bring a rookie quarterback along; it's important to remember that as well," Van Pelt remarked.
