Triathlete Dies During Nottinghamshire Race
A triathlete has tragically passed away following a medical incident during a competition at Holme Pierrepont Country Park in Nottinghamshire on Saturday afternoon.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that the man suffered a medical episode while participating in the event, which took place at the well-known park near Colwick. Sadly, he later succumbed to his condition.
"Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends during this difficult time," stated a spokesperson for the force. They also confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the deceased's next of kin have been informed.
The Tri Society, which organised the event, expressed deep sorrow at the athlete's passing in a social media statement. They revealed that event medical staff had transported the man to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
"Our thoughts are with the athlete's family, friends, and team-mates at this difficult time," the statement read.
The park, home to the National Water Sports Centre, hosted the Triathlon England National Club Relays Championships on Saturday. British Triathlon, the governing body responsible for the event, confirmed the athlete's participation and extended their condolences to his friends and family.
Fellow triathletes and clubs across the country have taken to social media to share their grief and offer condolences.
Nottinghamshire Police has stated that a file will be prepared for the coroner.
