Theo Walcott Picks Three Manchester United Legends as the Toughest Opponents

Former Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott has named three Manchester United legends as the toughest players he faced during his long career with the Gunners. Walcott, who joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2006 for a fee of £5 million, spent a decade and a half under manager Arsène Wenger, making 397 appearances and scoring 108 goals for the North London club.

Walcott was well acquainted with the legendary rivalry between Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson, the iconic Manchester United manager. He's now revealed his toughest opponents from the Red Devils, providing some insight into the fierce battles that took place on the pitch.

Speaking to Bleacher Report, Walcott highlighted Patrice Evra as his first choice, praising the former United left-back's attacking prowess. "The reason being he was not just a great defender, going forward, he was incredible," Walcott said. "He really was, it was just so annoying to keep up with, so he’d be one."

Next up was Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese superstar who rose to fame under Ferguson's tutelage. Walcott admitted that Ronaldo was a tough opponent to deal with, requiring double-teaming to contain him. "The other one would be Cristiano Ronaldo, playing against him," Walcott continued. "I know, physically playing against him, but he was just incredible to be around. When you’re trying to double up with him, with Justin Hoyte, I remember he’s just so hard to manage."

Finally, Walcott hailed Rio Ferdinand, another legendary figure from Ferguson's golden era, as one of the best defenders England has ever produced. "Rio Ferdinand was an incredible defender, probably one of England’s best, if not, the best defender that’s ever lived," Walcott stated. "Actually, in the Premier League, for me, there’s many of them and he’s one of them. And actually, playing with him for England."

Walcott's selections offer a testament to the quality of the Manchester United players he faced during his time at Arsenal. Each of these players played a crucial role in building United's success and are considered legends for their individual achievements and contributions to the club.
