Team GB Sevens Player Under Investigation for Alleged Racist WhatsApp Message

A Team GB rugby sevens player is currently under investigation by the British Olympic Association (BOA) following allegations of a racist message sent on WhatsApp.

A screenshot of a message, purportedly sent by Amy Wilson-Hardy, was shared on Instagram. The user who posted the image claimed that the message demonstrated racist behaviour.

In response to the allegations, a BOA spokesperson stated: “The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter.”

Wilson-Hardy, who also represented Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics, played for the British women's team in their recent quarter-final match against the USA. Despite an early try from Ellie Boatman, the British team ultimately lost the game 17-7, attributed to several handling errors.

This isn't the first time Wilson-Hardy has graced the international rugby scene. She has previously played 15-a-side rugby for her country, accumulating significant experience within the women's rugby Premiership. Her impressive career has seen her play for several notable clubs, including Wasps, Bristol Bears, and Ealing Trailfinders.

The BOA's investigation into the alleged racist message is ongoing. It is crucial to acknowledge that the investigation is in its initial stages and no conclusions have been drawn regarding the authenticity or content of the purported message. As the investigation progresses, further information and updates are expected.
