Szczesny Calls Time on Career: Former Arsenal and Juventus Goalkeeper Retires at 34
Wojciech Szczesny, the former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. Szczesny began his journey at Arsenal, joining the Gunners' academy as a 16-year-old in 2006. In his seven years at the Emirates Stadium, he amassed 181 appearances, lifting two FA Cups and the 2014 Community Shield. He also had a brief loan spell at Brentford in 2009-10, gaining further experience before returning to Arsenal.
Following a two-year loan at Roma, Szczesny joined Juventus in 2017, embarking on a hugely successful period in Turin. He became a key figure in the Italian side's dominance, making 252 appearances and winning an impressive eight major trophies, including three Serie A titles. He played a pivotal role in Juve's consistent success, showcasing his exceptional shot-stopping abilities and command of the penalty area.
On the international stage, Szczesny represented his native Poland with distinction. He earned 84 caps, playing in four European Championships and two World Cups, establishing himself as one of the most recognisable faces of Polish football.

"I gave the game 18 years of my life, every day, without excuses," he said. "Today, though my body still feels ready for challenges, my heart is not there anymore. I feel that right now it is time to give all of my attention to my family."
