Skriniar Dropped: PSG Outcasts Ex-Inter Defender
Former Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar has been excluded from the Paris Saint-Germain matchday squad, marking a significant downturn in his fortunes since his arrival in the French capital.
The 29-year-old Slovakian spent six successful years at the San Siro, arriving in 2017 from Sampdoria as a promising young defender. He quickly established himself as a key figure for the Nerazzurri, developing into one of Serie A's most reliable and formidable defenders.
In the summer of 2022, PSG launched a determined pursuit to secure Skriniar's services, even offering a substantial â¬60 million transfer fee. However, despite the approaching deadline of his contract, Inter opted against selling the defender, expecting him to sign an extension the following season.
Yet, the Slovakian's signature never materialised. Instead, he joined the Parisian giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, after a tumultuous end to his time in Milan.
His first season at Le Parc des Princes proved to be a frustrating one, marred by injuries and underwhelming performances. Despite hoping for a resurgence this season, PSG have opted against giving him another chance.
According to Italian football news outlets FcInter1908 and FcInterNews, PSG manager Luis Enrique has omitted Skriniar from the matchday squad for technical reasons, effectively freezing him out of the team. Notably, Skriniar was fit to play in the encounter against Montpellier.
This decision marks a clear declaration of intent from the French club. They are no longer willing to rely on the Slovakian's services and are actively seeking a way to move him on.
Reports suggest that PSG have offered the unwanted defender to the Turkish trio of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Besiktas. Skriniar's contract with the Ligue 1 champions runs until June 2028, leaving PSG with a hefty commitment to a player they no longer see as part of their plans.
Skriniar's fall from grace at PSG serves as a stark reminder of the fickle nature of footballing fortunes. His time at the club has been a far cry from the success he enjoyed in Milan, leaving him facing an uncertain future.
