Simone Biles Watches Caitlin Clark Break WNBA Rookie Record
American gymnastics legend Simone Biles was in the crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening as Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark etched her name into the WNBA record books.
Clark's historic achievement came in the first quarter of the Fever's game against the Connecticut Sun, when she sank her 86th three-pointer of the season. This feat surpassed the previous WNBA single-season rookie record, held by Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard since 2022.
Biles, with her 11 Olympic medals, the most for any American gymnast, is no stranger to making history herself. She added four more medals to her impressive tally at the 2024 Paris Games, including three golds in the team, individual all-around, and vault finals.
Clark's impressive rookie season has been filled with milestones, as she previously established a new WNBA single-season rookie assist record on 18 August. On 17 July, she also recorded the highest single-game assist total in WNBA history with 19 in a game against the Dallas Wings, despite the Fever falling short of victory.
The young guard has averaged 18.0 points, 8.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game heading into Wednesday's match. Despite a challenging start to her professional career in terms of efficiency, Clark has shot an impressive 44.4 percent from the field over her last ten appearances.
Her outstanding performances have played a vital role in the Fever's playoff aspirations, as they currently hold the No. 7 seed with a record of 14-16. The team's performance is a testament to Clark's impact, and her record-breaking achievements are sure to continue garnering attention as she continues her rookie season.
