Dylan Griffiths Johnson, a 15-year-old from Pershore, has been crowned British Taekwondo champion at a recent tournament held at Bromsgrove School.
The talented young athlete triumphed in a series of intense matches against competitors from across the UK and a team from the USA, demonstrating exceptional skill and determination.
Dylan's success comes as no surprise, given his strong family heritage in martial arts. Both his parents, Rachel and Tony, are accomplished martial artists, and Dylan's passion for the sport began at a young age.
"My wife and I teach martial arts, so Dylan was immersed in the culture from a very young age," explained his father, Tony. "He was mimicking our movements from just two years old. He's quietly progressed through the grades over the years, and his talent has just blown us all away."
Tony continued, "Dylan is quiet and humble, and we're both just delighted by his achievements. When he was competing against the USA team, they didn't know what to do with him. The USA coach was so impressed he invited Dylan to train with them, so we're looking into the possibility of him going over there next year."
Dylan's dedication to the sport is evident in his aspirations for the future. "He'd love to be in the Olympic Games," said Tony. "He turns 16 soon and his training has made him more confident and shaped his character."
As Dylan prepares for his next challenge, his family and community are filled with pride for his remarkable achievements. His journey to becoming British champion is a testament to his talent, hard work, and passion for taekwondo. With his sights set on the Olympics, Dylan is a shining example of young British athleticism.
