The triathlon is back on! After yesterday's postponement due to concerns over the Seine's water quality, the women's triathlon has kicked off in Paris. The men's race will follow at 10:45am local time.
The women's race is underway, with Flora Duffy of Bermuda leading the pack. She has a 17-second lead over the chasing group, which includes Bianca Seregni of Italy, Vittoria Lopes of Brazil, and Beth Potter of Great Britain.
It's a tough battle out on the water. The strong current in the Seine is making for a challenging swim, with some competitors struggling to make headway.
Duffy established her lead early on in the swim. She emerged from the water first, quickly transitioning onto her bike.
The cycling leg is underway. Duffy is continuing to build her lead, and the chasing group is now 11-strong with Beaugrand and Lombardi of France, Tertsh of Germany, and Taylor-Brown of Great Britain among them. However, they are struggling to close the gap.
The course is a challenging one, with slippery cobblestones causing several falls. Several cyclists have already crashed, including Kirsten Kasper of the USA, who came a cropper twice.
The race is heating up. The leading ten are now over one minute ahead of the chasing pack, and the tension is mounting as they prepare for the final running leg.
Keep an eye on Emma Lombardi and Cassandre Beaugrand of France. They are among the favourites for gold, along with Duffy, Taylor-Brown, and Tertsch.
The triathlon is a thrilling event. We're sure to see some exciting action as the race unfolds.
