Megan Armitage, a cyclist from Shinrone, Offaly, will be the last Midlands athlete to compete at the Olympic Games, taking to the road in the women's road race on Sunday.
The 158km race, commencing in Paris, will challenge the competitors with over 1,700 feet of elevation, weaving its way towards Le Golf National, where Shane Lowry is currently vying for golfing glory.
The race will return to the French capital for two laps of an 18.4km circuit, culminating with the crowning of the winner under the iconic Eiffel Tower.
