NBA Stars Anthony Davis, Edwards to Join Mayweather's Entourage for Gotti Fight
American basketball stars Anthony Davis and Anthony Edwards will be part of Floyd Mayweather's entourage when the boxing legend faces John Gotti III in Mexico City this Saturday, according to TMZ Sports.
The two NBA All-Stars are fresh off their gold medal victory at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where Team USA redeemed themselves after a disappointing fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This marks their fifth consecutive gold medal at the Summer Games.
Mayweather, who retired from professional boxing in 2017 with an undefeated 50-0 record, has found a lucrative path through unofficial exhibition bouts. The 47-year-old last faced Gotti in June 2023, which ended in a no contest and descended into a brawl inside the ring after the final bell.
Gotti, the grandson of the late New York mob boss John Gotti, initially pursued a career in mixed martial arts (MMA) before switching to boxing. He holds a 5-1 record in MMA and has won professional boxing bouts against Albert Tulley and Alex Citrowske.
The highly anticipated rematch between Mayweather and Gotti is set to take place in Mexico City, promising another high-stakes encounter between the two fighters.
This time, however, Mayweather will have a strong contingent from the basketball world backing him up. The presence of Davis and Edwards in his entourage adds a layer of star power to the event, highlighting the crossover appeal of boxing and basketball in the realm of high-profile sporting events.
