Yunus Musah, AC Milan's American midfielder, has declared the squad is brimming with motivation ahead of the new season. The 20-year-old also shared his initial impressions of the club's new manager, Paulo Fonseca.
Musah arrived at the San Siro last summer, one of several new additions during a busy transfer window. His debut season was a mixed bag, with fluctuating form and deployments in a variety of positions, including right-back and wing-back, alongside his usual midfield role.
With a new manager at the helm, Musah is hoping to establish a clear and consistent role within the team. Tonight's friendly match against European Champions Real Madrid offers a prime opportunity to showcase his abilities.
Musah, who rejoined the squad shortly before their recent match against Manchester City, following a post-Copa America vacation, featured for 10 minutes at the end of the game.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago, Musah expressed his optimism about the team's prospects.
"We came back from the break feeling fresh both physically and mentally," he stated. "We're focused on learning from the staff and the coach, although itâs still early days."
Asked about the atmosphere within the squad, Musah highlighted the inherent enthusiasm that comes with a new season.
"The feeling is always the same after a break; everyone returns with renewed motivation and excitement," he explained. "Whether thereâs a new manager or not, that feeling is always there. The dressing room is buzzing with energy and determination."
The young midfielder also acknowledged the presence of several promising youngsters in the squad, including Camarda and Libaerli.
"I've been training with them for a few days, and they're doing really well," he said. "I remember my first pre-season in the first team; I was excited to prove myself, so I'm sure they feel the same."
Musah also spoke about his strong bond with fellow American, Christian Pulisic.
"We have a good relationship, even before we played together at Milan," he revealed. "Now that weâre teammates, weâve definitely built a stronger connection, both on and off the pitch."
Looking ahead to the upcoming challenge against Real Madrid, Musah expressed his enthusiasm for the test.
"I hope to play well, find my rhythm, and prepare for the season," he said. "I played against [Luka] Modric in La Liga. He's a fantastic player, someone you can learn a lot from."
With a new manager and a rejuvenated squad, AC Milan and Yunus Musah are ready to embark on a promising new season. The friendly against Real Madrid provides a stage to showcase their progress and lay the groundwork for the upcoming campaign.
