Man Utd Win in San Diego, But Injury Concerns Grow

Manchester United returned to winning ways on their US pre-season tour, securing a 3-2 victory over Real Betis in San Diego, California. However, the triumph was overshadowed by further injury concerns, adding to the growing list of absentees.

The Red Devils fell behind early on when Iker Losada put the Spanish side ahead in the 15th minute. However, United responded swiftly, equalising just two minutes later through Marcus Rashford from the penalty spot after Amad Diallo was fouled in the box.

Amad Diallo then added a second for United in the 28th minute, before Casemiro made it 3-1 thirteen minutes later. Diego Llorente pulled a goal back for Betis in the second half, but United held on for the win.

Injury Woes Continue

The match was marred by injuries, with both Marcus Rashford and Antony forced off during the game. The news comes just days after it was confirmed that Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund will be sidelined for three months and six weeks, respectively.

Rashford limped off just after the hour mark after a heavy challenge from Sergi Altimira, while Antony went off towards the end of the match, looking frustrated.

The constant stream of injuries is a cause for concern for Erik ten Hag, who had identified reducing the club's injury toll as a priority for the season.

United's Attacking Prowess

Despite the absence of Hojlund, United showcased their attacking threat, with Jadon Sancho, Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford all impressing.

Sancho played as a false nine, showcasing his versatility, while Diallo was particularly effective on the right flank, scoring a goal and drawing the penalty that led to Rashford's opener.

Ten Hag's Cautionary Approach

Erik ten Hag took a cautious approach with his defence, making two half-time substitutions, bringing on Jonny Evans and Will Fish for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

This decision comes amidst concerns about the club's defensive depth, particularly with Yoro's long-term injury and no guarantees that United will sign new defenders.

Amass Continues to Impress

Harry Amass continued his impressive pre-season form, starting at left-back and providing a solid defensive display. The 17-year-old showcased his attacking capabilities with a dangerous cross leading to Amad's goal and also made a number of strong tackles.

Heaton's Return

Tom Heaton made a rare start in goal for United, his first competitive appearance for the club in 18 months. While he was beaten twice, the veteran goalkeeper looked a little rusty in the early stages of the game.

Despite the victory, United's pre-season tour has been overshadowed by injuries, which will be a major concern for Erik ten Hag as he prepares for the upcoming season.
