Liverpool Eye Surprise Chiesa Move Before Deadline
With the transfer window closing on Friday, Liverpool are reportedly considering a late swoop for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa, according to a source speaking to ESPN.
The 26-year-old Italian international was thought to be on the verge of a £12 million (â¬13 million) move to Barcelona earlier this month. However, the LaLiga side have been unable to finalise a deal, leaving the door open for the Reds to make a move.
Chiesa, whose contract with Juventus expires at the end of the current season, has experienced a series of injury setbacks in recent years, including a ten-month layoff due to a cruciate ligament injury. Despite this, Liverpool are said to be interested in the player due to his pedigree and versatility.
The Merseyside club have yet to make a signing this summer following the appointment of Arne Slot as head coach, replacing Jürgen Klopp who departed Anfield at the end of last season.
Negotiations are ongoing for a £35 million (â¬40 million) deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, this agreement would see the Georgian international remain on loan at the Spanish club for the remainder of the season.
While Slot has expressed satisfaction with his current squad, the potential arrival of Chiesa could add a further layer of attacking quality to the team if a suitable agreement can be reached with Juventus before the deadline.
