Joe Gomez was notably absent from Liverpool's squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town, as he weighs his options before the transfer window closes.
Several clubs, including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Fulham, Chelsea, and teams abroad, have expressed interest in the England international.
While Gomez, Liverpool's longest-serving player since joining in 2015, may not necessarily leave Anfield this month, his absence from the matchday squad is attributed to "grown-up discussions" between the player and the club, who are not forcing a move.
With new manager Arne Slot favouring Jarell Quansah alongside Virgil van Dijk, and Ibrahima Konaté also vying for a centre-back spot, the competition for places has led Gomez to contemplate a potential switch to a club where he can secure regular starts in his preferred position.
Over recent seasons, Gomez has become a versatile player, comfortable in various roles across the defence and even midfield. This adaptability, showcased during his England appearances at the European Championship, makes him a valuable asset to Liverpool.
His departure would not come cheap, with Newcastle previously valuing him at £45 million as part of a proposed £75 million deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon move to Liverpool in June. However, that deal was subsequently withdrawn following the sale of other players. Newcastle have since made numerous bids for Crystal Palace's Marc Guéhi, but have yet to secure his signature.
Beyond domestic interest, Gomez's situation could attract the attention of Bayern Munich, who recently sold Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Manchester United for £60 million.
Should a suitable move not materialise, Gomez will be welcomed back into Slot's squad for the upcoming season.
