Liverpool Close to Snapping Up Juventus Winger Chiesa for £10.9m
Liverpool are on the verge of securing the signature of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, with a deal reportedly close to being finalised. The Reds are aiming to land the Italy international for a fee in the region of â¬13m (£10.9m).
The 26-year-old could undergo a medical at Anfield in the coming days, making him the first signing under new manager Arne Slot. Chiesa himself hinted at the move when he told reporters at an airport on Wednesday that he was "ready for this new adventure", in comments reported by Italian network Sportitalia.
Chiesa was instrumental in Italy's triumph at Euro 2021, scoring a crucial goal in the final victory over England at Wembley. He has also proven his goalscoring prowess at club level, netting 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season.
However, Chiesa has found himself out of favour under new Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who has omitted him from his first two matchday squads this season. This has paved the way for a potential move to Anfield, where Chiesa could add further firepower to Jürgen Klopp's already formidable attacking options.
The Reds are also pursuing a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili before the transfer window closes on Friday. This move would provide much-needed competition for Alisson Becker in goal, as the Brazilian is currently the sole recognised senior goalkeeper in the squad.
If successful, these two acquisitions would significantly bolster Liverpool's squad depth, as they look to challenge for trophies on multiple fronts this season.
