Former Celtic winger Jota is set to leave Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, with a move to fellow Saudi Pro League side Al-Fateh on the cards. The 25-year-old has failed to make a lasting impact at Al-Ittihad since his £25 million transfer from Celtic last summer, leading to speculation surrounding his future.
Despite scoring four goals in nine league appearances, Jota was initially left out of the squad for the first portion of the season. His fortunes seemed to improve under new manager Laurent Blanc, who took charge in February. However, the Frenchman has sanctioned a move for Jota, with both a loan and permanent transfer being considered.
Al-Fateh, based in the eastern region of Al-Ahsa, are actively pursuing a deal for the Portuguese winger. The club are looking to match Jota's current wages, which were reportedly a significant part of the £25 million transfer fee paid by Al-Ittihad.
Al-Fateh's manager, Slaven Bilic, is keen on bringing Jota to the club. The Croatian, who has been at the helm for a year, is no stranger to the Premier League, having previously managed West Ham, West Bromwich Albion, and Watford.
The move could be beneficial for both parties. Al-Ittihad are looking to reduce the number of foreign players on their roster, and a departure for Jota would free up a valuable spot. For Jota, a move to Al-Fateh could represent a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career after a difficult spell in Jeddah.
This latest development will be keenly watched by Celtic fans who saw Jota as a key player during his time at Parkhead. Whether he can rediscover his form and become a success in Saudi Arabia remains to be seen.
