Jaguars Soar Past Lions in Max60 Caribbean Clash
The Grand Cayman Jaguars secured a resounding eight-wicket victory over the Miami Lions in the seventh match of the Max60 Caribbean tournament, played on Tuesday. The Jaguars' triumph was largely due to a brilliant bowling performance by Josh Little and a blistering knock by Ben Dunk.
The Lions, batting first, struggled to build momentum and were restricted to a paltry 79/9 in their allotted 10 overs. Their innings began disastrously, losing three wickets within the first two overs. Gerhard Erasmus, batting at number five, offered some resistance with a quick-fire 32, smashing three fours and a six, but he was eventually dismissed by Sikandar Raza. Besides Erasmus, only Ravi Bopara (18) managed a score of note, as the rest of the Lions' batters failed to reach double figures.
Little spearheaded the Jaguars' bowling attack, claiming 3/19 in his two overs. Mitchell McClenaghan contributed two wickets, while Raza, Logan van Beek and Terrance Hinds took one wicket each.
Chasing a modest target of 80, the Jaguars comfortably reached the winning runs with 19 balls to spare, losing only two wickets in the process. Opener Ben Dunk set the tone with a blazing 32-run cameo, smashing four fours and two sixes. He was well supported by fellow opener Alex Hales, who scored a quickfire 24 off 13 deliveries, including three boundaries and a six. The opening pair put on a formidable 56-run stand before both were dismissed in successive overs. Sikandar Raza (9*) and Saif Zaib (7*) then guided the Jaguars to a comfortable victory.
This dominant win propelled the Grand Cayman Jaguars to third place in the Max60 Caribbean standings, with three points from their three matches. The Miami Lions, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table.
