Jaguars QB Lawrence Impresses in Pre-Season Finale
Trevor Lawrence may be on a hefty new contract, but the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback is still under pressure to prove his worth. After a rollercoaster career, this season feels pivotal for the young star.
And in the team's pre-season finale against the Atlanta Falcons, Lawrence looked sharp and ready for the campaign ahead. He started the game with a series of accurate passes, culminating in a beautifully-placed touchdown to Evan Engram. Lawrence's pinpoint accuracy was evident again on the second drive, as he connected with Engram for another touchdown, showcasing his growing chemistry with the tight end.
After completing all four passes on the opening drive for 59 yards, Lawrence finished the night with a clean 8 of 10 for 91 yards before being withdrawn after the second series. While these numbers came against Atlanta's reserve players, it was still a promising sign for the Jaguars.
Lawrence wasn't the only player who impressed. Travis Etienne Jr. also put on a strong performance, showcasing his running ability with early gains of seven and 16 yards, racking up a total of 47 yards on seven carries in a limited appearance.
Rookie first-round draft pick Brian Thomas Jr. continued his positive pre-season form, securing a 38-yard catch on the opening drive. Engram, looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, showcased his skills with a fine catch on Lawrence's perfect touchdown pass, ultimately ending the game with four catches, including the two scores.
The defensive side also showed their mettle, with former top draft pick Travon Walker recording a sack and pressuring the quarterback on the following play, resulting in an incomplete pass.
The overall performance in the pre-season finale was encouraging for the Jaguars. Last season, they were on track for an AFC South title before Lawrence suffered a high ankle sprain, which ultimately derailed their playoff aspirations. Friday's display suggests that the Jaguars could be ready to bounce back from their setback, and Lawrence's performance, in particular, hints at a promising season ahead.
The 2024 season is set to kick off soon, and Lawrence appears to be in top form, ready to lead the Jaguars into the new campaign with confidence.
