India completed a dominant 3-0 series whitewash over Sri Lanka in the inconsequential third T20I at Pallekele on Tuesday, securing a thrilling victory in a Super Over.
Sri Lanka, chasing a modest target of 138, initially appeared on course for victory thanks to solid contributions from Kusal Perera (46 off 34 balls) and Kusal Mendis (43 off 41 balls). However, their innings unravelled in the final stages, leaving them stranded at 137/8 after their allotted 20 overs, forcing a Super Over.
India's bowling attack, led by Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Rinku Singh, and captain Suryakumar Yadav, who each claimed two wickets, proved instrumental in stifling Sri Lanka's momentum.
Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka's bowlers had put in a commendable effort to restrict India to a relatively modest score of 137/9. Spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana were the pick of the bowlers, taking a combined five wickets. Shubman Gill (39) was the only Indian batsman to offer significant resistance, receiving support from Riyan Parag (26).
In the Super Over, India needed just three runs to secure victory, eventually clinching the series in dramatic fashion.
Brief Scores:
India: 137/9 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 39, Riyan Parag 26, Washington Sundar 25; Wanindu Hasaranga 2/29, Maheesh Theekshana 3/28) lost to Sri Lanka: 137/ 8 in 20 overs (Kusal Perera 46, Kusal Mendis 43; Washington Sundar 2/23, Rinku Singh 2/3, Suryakumar Yadav 1/5). India win in Super Over.
