Lincoln City kick off their Carabao Cup campaign on Tuesday, 13th August, with a home fixture against Harrogate Town at the LNER Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm). The Imps are hoping to build on their positive start to the league season with a victory in the cup.
Ahead of the match, head coach Michael Skubala outlined his approach to the game, highlighting the importance of both the cup and squad depth. He stated, âWeâve got to look after some bodies, but it gives an opportunity for one or two who are chomping at the bit to come into the team. We are going to do everything we can to win the game and get into the next round. We take all cup competitions seriously, we take the league seriously and thatâs why we want the depth in the squad.â
Skubala was also keen to emphasise the importance of securing a positive result in the cup, despite the upcoming league fixture against Stevenage on Saturday. âItâs always an amazing atmosphere at the LNER Stadium," he said. "Itâll be really good to see some fans of all ages, and then we go onto Saturday which is a big one, but first and foremost letâs try and get through this cup and put a team on the pitch that can be competitive and get us into the next round.â
The manager also reflected on the recent league opener against Burton Albion, which saw the Imps claim a 3-1 victory. âThe Burton game was a good result and performance, especially the first 20 minutes," he commented. "We knew the game would be really open and we knew it would have moments of having big spaces. It was really good to come out with three points, you always want to start the season with a win but we know it wonât define what we do for the rest of the season.â
The Imps will be hoping for a strong performance against Harrogate Town as they look to secure a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup and continue their positive start to the season.
