Hagi's Rangers Future Uncertain Amidst "Strange Situation"
Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi finds himself in a precarious position, despite being labelled a "game-changer" by former teammate Kevin Thomson. The Romanian forward, who spent last season on loan at Spanish club Alaves, has been told he is not part of manager Philippe Clement's plans, but remains at Ibrox, training with the B team.
While Hagi expressed his willingness to contribute to the club this week, stating he is "willing to help, work and fight", his future remains uncertain as the transfer window draws to a close on Friday.
Thomson, who played alongside Hagi at Rangers, acknowledges the 25-year-old's talent and impact on the pitch. "They used to always talk about his courage, being able to take the ball in tight areas and risking it, obviously giving it away at times, which can be a disgruntlement to the fans," Thomson said on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast. "They might get frustrated with him, but they're match-winners and game-changers - and I think Ianis is that."
Despite Hagi's evident capabilities, Thomson believes the situation has become "strange" for the player and for the club's supporters. "It's also is a difficult position for the fans, they want to see the best players on the pitch," he added. "I think Rangers need all the good players they've possibly got. Ianis, Todd Cantwell, these players' futures need to either be sorted or everybody needs to be transparent with what's going on, because they are picking up big wages."
The former midfielder emphasizes the need for clarity and resolution surrounding Hagi's future, suggesting that the club should either secure a transfer for the player or definitively integrate him into the first-team squad.
With the transfer deadline looming, the situation surrounding Ianis Hagi remains unresolved, leaving fans and commentators alike wondering what the future holds for the talented midfielder at Ibrox.
