Gundogan's Future Uncertain: Galatasaray Boss Hints at Interest

Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has fuelled speculation surrounding Ilkay Gundogan's future, suggesting that the Turkish club are keeping a close eye on the midfielder's situation at Barcelona.

Ozbek acknowledged the widespread interest in Gundogan, stating that "almost every team in the world" would be keen to sign the talented player. He went on to hint at Galatasaray's potential interest, saying that they are "always looking for a good player," further fuelling rumours of a potential move to Istanbul as the transfer window draws to a close.

Gundogan's future at Barcelona remains uncertain, with the Catalan giants seemingly open to his departure. While whispers of a possible return to Manchester City have emerged, Galatasaray have now emerged as a serious contender for the midfielder's signature.

When asked about Galatasaray's interest in Gundogan, Ozbek expressed his admiration for the player, stating that it was "natural" for the Turkish giants to be linked with a footballer of his calibre.

"Gundogan is a very important footballer," Ozbek said, as quoted by BeInSports. "Galatasaray are also the most important team in Turkey."

Ozbek admitted that the situation surrounding Gundogan's future at Barcelona is unclear, but he confirmed that Galatasaray are closely monitoring developments.

"It is very natural to talk about it," he added. "There is no clear situation at the moment about İlkay leaving Barcelona or not. Therefore, it is useless to comment on this issue at the moment. Ilkay’s situation needs to be clear first. Of course, we are following [his situation] closely."

Despite the speculation, those close to Gundogan insist that he is not seeking to be the centre of attention. They believe that the midfielder is confident in his ability to earn his place in the team and that his relationship with manager Hansi Flick remains strong. They also emphasise that Gundogan respects whatever decision Flick makes regarding his future.

While Ozbek's comments have intensified speculation surrounding Gundogan's future, it remains unclear whether Galatasaray will ultimately be able to secure the services of the experienced midfielder. The coming weeks will undoubtedly be crucial in determining the German's next destination.
