GCSE Results Not What You Expected? Oaklands College Welcomes All

Oaklands College, with campuses in St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, and Borehamwood, is extending a warm invitation to all 16-year-olds, regardless of their recent GCSE results, to attend its "Come to College Day" on Thursday, 22nd August.

This open day provides a valuable opportunity for young people to explore the diverse range of over 300 courses on offer at Oaklands. Attendees can learn about the various pathways available and even enrol on a course on the spot.

Deputy Principal Claire Dolan emphasised the inclusive nature of the event, stating: "This 'Come to College Day' is for any young person who is unsure about their future after school. We welcome those who have had a change of heart and want to see what Oaklands offers, as well as those who didn't get the GCSE results they hoped for. We want to provide guidance and support to everyone."

Dolan further highlighted the college's commitment to offering alternative routes to success beyond traditional A-Levels: "There are many ways to achieve your goals, and our students' achievements demonstrate that. We are proud to offer a wide variety of courses, including valuable vocational qualifications and high-level athletics and sports development programmes."

Oaklands has a proven track record of fostering success, with notable alumni including Daryll Neita, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist. The college's commitment to vocational excellence is evident in the recent success of three Level 3 engineering students: Heath Richmond, Alexander Mason, and Jamie Orfeur. All three secured coveted apprenticeships with TUI, the UK's leading holiday company.

Richmond and Mason will embark on aircraft engineering apprenticeships at TUI's hangar at Luton Airport, while Orfeur will participate in a brand-new aircraft engineer workshop apprenticeship scheme. These four-year programmes offer invaluable practical experience and career development opportunities.

The "Come to College Day" event will take place at the St Albans campus from 9am to 1pm, providing a chance for prospective students to engage with staff, explore facilities, and discover their ideal educational path. The event is an ideal opportunity for young people to explore their options, gain clarity, and confidently step towards a fulfilling future.
