Former Rangers Striker David Healy Targeted for Raith Rovers Job
Raith Rovers are reportedly keen to appoint former Rangers striker David Healy as their new manager, after the departure of Ian Murray earlier this month. The Kirkcaldy club have approached Linfield, Healy's current club, to seek permission to speak to the 45-year-old about the vacant position.
Healy, a prolific goalscorer during his playing days, spent a season at Ibrox in 2011, toward the tail end of a career that saw him play for Manchester United, Leeds United, Fulham, Sunderland, and Preston North End. He joined Linfield in 2015 as manager, and has overseen a successful period for the Belfast club, securing five league titles and six cup wins during his tenure.
Despite his success at Windsor Park, Healy is believed to be eager to take on a new challenge and test himself in a different environment. He has previously been linked with managerial positions in Scottish football, and this latest approach from Raith Rovers could see him finally make the move to the SPFL.
Raith have been seeking a new manager since the shock dismissal of Ian Murray, who was relieved of his duties despite leading the club to the Championship play-off final last season, where they were defeated by Ross County.
Healy, who was named NIFL Manager of the Year on four occasions during his time at Linfield, is regarded as a highly-respected figure in Northern Irish football. His experience and success could prove invaluable for Raith Rovers, who are aiming to challenge for promotion back to the Premiership.
The club's decision to target Healy is an interesting one, as he boasts a strong pedigree in Scottish football and a proven track record of success as a manager. It remains to be seen whether he will be persuaded to take on the challenge at Stark's Park, but his appointment would certainly represent a coup for the club.
