Derbyshire County Cricket Club is gearing up for a crucial Metro Bank One-Day Cup fixture against Kent at The County Ground tomorrow, with a place in the knockout stages on the line.
The Derbyshire squad has been bolstered by the return of Pat Brown, who is available for selection after being released by Northern Superchargers. However, the team will be without Harry Came (hamstring) and Matt Lamb (calf strain), who are both sidelined with injuries and will be assessed by the clubâs medical team.
The 13-player squad for the match is as follows:
Daryn Dupavillon
Luis Reece
Harry Moore
Yousaf Bin Naeem
Samit Patel (c)
Mitch Wagstaff
Nick Potts
Brooke Guest
Zak Chappell
Pat Brown
David Lloyd
Sam Conners
Anuj Dal
Kent have had a mixed start to the tournament, securing four points from their opening five games with victories against Hampshire and Lancashire. Italian international Grant Stewart has been a standout performer for Kent, leading the competition's run-scoring charts with 148 runs across four innings. He also shares the top spot for most wickets taken, alongside Matt Parkinson and Beyers Swanepoel, with eight dismissals each.
Derbyshire, currently sitting on eight points in Group A, are just outside of the top three on net run-rate. They are aiming to secure a crucial victory against Kent to boost their chances of securing a place in the knockout stages.
âI don't think Hampshire got too many runs, maybe 15 to 20 too many,â admitted Daryn Dupavillon, reflecting on their recent defeat against Hampshire. âOur goal is always to have the other team 250, wicket dependent, and we maybe leaked a few too many in the back end, but I think the boys bowled well for long periods of time.â
âWe still felt we could come out and get it, and we have enormous faith in our batting order, and we bat really low. We felt we could chase it, but when you see Mo Abbas and Kyle Abbott come out and bowl like that, they show why they are two of the best bowlers on the county circuit.â
âIt was good to watch as a bowler, but sad for Derbyshire. It means we have to go to the next game and win it to secure a spot in the knockouts,â Dupavillon added.
