Manchester City Women have strengthened their ranks with the signing of promising young defender, Naomi Layzell, from Bristol City. The 20-year-old has penned a four-year deal, committing her future to the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2028.
Layzell, who will wear the number three shirt for City, is a product of Bristol City's youth academy, making her Women's Super League (WSL) debut at the tender age of 16. The England youth international has been a key figure for Bristol, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the WSL during the 2022-23 season. She made a total of 77 appearances for the Robins across all competitions.
Speaking about her move to the reigning WSL champions, Layzell expressed her excitement: âItâs quite surreal to be honest. You always want to play for the top teams as a young player, and I think joining City is an exciting opportunity for me."
She continued: "Playing alongside and against top elite professionals in the world is just a brilliant opportunity and a really hard one to turn down. I grew so much as a person at Bristol City, but I felt it was time for me to find a new challenge. Iâm really excited to get involved."
Layzell's arrival at City signals the club's continued commitment to investing in young talent. Her impressive performances for Bristol City have earned her a reputation as a promising defender, and her arrival at the Etihad Stadium is sure to be seen as a coup for the Manchester club.
With the transfer window still open, it remains to be seen if City will make any further additions to their squad before the deadline. However, Layzell's arrival is a positive sign for the club as they seek to maintain their position at the top of the WSL table.
