Championship Table: Burnley Top Early Standings
The Championship season is off to a strong start for Burnley, who sit atop the table with a perfect record after two matches. The Clarets, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have won both their opening games, defeating both Huddersfield and Norwich.
Sunderland, Watford, and Sheffield United are also unbeaten, sitting alongside Burnley on six points. Sunderland's early success comes after a strong end to last season, where they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion. Watford have also begun their campaign with two wins, while Sheffield United remain in the early running after an impressive 4-1 victory against Millwall in their opening game.
Following Burnley and Sunderland's two wins, the remaining seven clubs on six points have all achieved a single win and a draw. Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers, and West Bromwich Albion each secured three points from their opening game, but failed to follow it up with a victory in their second match.
Bristol City's start to the season can be considered a mixed bag. They started with a draw against Hull City before securing a hard-fought 3-2 win against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
Coventry City are currently in 10th position, having secured three points with a 2-1 victory against Luton Town. However, they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Stoke City in their first game.
The bottom five teams all currently sit on three points or less, having failed to pick up a win so far.
As the Championship season progresses, the table is sure to be in constant flux. This early success for Burnley and Sunderland demonstrates the competitive nature of the league and the battle for a return to the Premier League is well and truly on.
