Celtic Pummel Chelsea in US Tour Blowout

Chelsea suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Celtic in their second pre-season match in the United States. The Blues remain winless on their tour after a disappointing draw with Wrexham earlier in the week.

Enzo Maresca's side were outplayed from the outset at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, with Celtic taking a commanding lead within the first half hour. Matt O'Riley opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing expertly after a clever pass from Greg Taylor. Celtic doubled their lead just 15 minutes later when Kyogo Furuhashi was left unmarked in the box to convert O'Riley's low cross.

Chelsea had opportunities to get back into the match, but Marc Guiu, a former Barcelona youth player, failed to capitalise on a rebound opportunity early in the second half.

The Scottish side then put the game beyond doubt with a quickfire double. Luis Palma made it 3-0 after a sloppy pass from Benoît Badiashile allowed him a simple finish. Michael Johnston added a fourth goal following further defensive errors by Chelsea.

Christopher Nkunku pulled one back for Chelsea from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. The goal, Nkunku's second of pre-season, came after Raheem Sterling was fouled in the box.

Despite the heavy defeat, Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back against Mexican giants América in their next pre-season fixture in Atlanta on Wednesday. The Blues' Premier League season begins on 18 August with a tough encounter against Manchester City.

Celtic, meanwhile, are further ahead in their preparations for the new season. They kick off their Scottish Premiership campaign next week with a home fixture against Kilmarnock.
