Blues Get Down to Business in New Jersey Ahead of Gotham Clash
Following a day of travel on Saturday, Chelsea Women landed in New Jersey on Sunday, ready to hit the ground running ahead of their first pre-season fixture against NJ/NY Gotham.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, setting the tone for a busy schedule. A team meeting followed, marking the return of a familiar face to the squad. After spending much of the year recovering from injury in the US, Mia Fishel was reunited with her teammates. The forward was presented with her Women's Super League winner's medal by general manager Paul Green, sparking applause from her fellow Blues.
Training commenced under the watchful eye of head coach Sonia Bompastor, who will lead the team in her first game in charge against Gotham. The session, open to invited guests, started with a gym workout before moving to the pitch at Pingry School for a one-hour session. Warm-up exercises were followed by a series of drills, conducted in smaller and larger groups. Bompastor's feedback throughout the session, which included "Good work," was observed by a number of guests, including two players from PHWL New York, a women's professional ice hockey team.
After meeting the guests and signing shirts and footballs, a number of Blues returned to the gym for another workout, before heading back to the hotel for lunch.
Later in the afternoon, Aggie Beever-Jones, Nathalie Bjorn, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd headed back to Pingry School for a community event. The event saw Chelsea players meet pupils from the school and answer questions about their careers in professional football. Notably, two former Chelsea players, defender Jess Carter and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, who now play for Gotham, also attended the event.
