Your Beta Loadout Is Now Useless.
  • Drastic Aim Assist Nerf: Controller's rotational aim assist has been significantly adjusted to balance gameplay between controller and keyboard/mouse players.
  • Massive Weapon Meta Shake-up: Sweeping changes are here, including a complete rework of shotgun damage mechanics, nerfs to SMG range, and widespread attachment tuning.

  • Global Gameplay Improvements: Updates to movement, map spawns, perks, and scorestreaks have been implemented for a more polished launch experience.

As Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches this week, developer Treyarch has dropped a massive preseason patch, implementing significant changes based on player feedback from the beta. The update overhauls everything from core gameplay mechanics like Aim Assist to a complete rework of weapon classes, ensuring the launch meta will be a far cry from what players experienced previously.

In their "Road to Launch" Dev Talk, the team detailed the extensive list of launch week adjustments.

Aim Assist and Movement Overhauled

The Great Controller Rebalance

Addressing one of the most contentious topics from the beta, Aim Assist has received a significant adjustment. The developers noted that controller players had a distinct advantage in close-quarters fights. To level the playing field, the patch adjusts Rotational Aim Assist, increasing the range before it reaches full strength. Furthermore, full assist strength now requires active right-stick input, meaning players must be actively tracking a target to receive the maximum benefit. This change is designed to reward skillful aiming and balance the experience for all input types.

Quality of Life and Progression Boost

Player progression and movement have also been refined. Weapon XP earn rates have been boosted, allowing weapons to reach their max level about 25% faster than in Black Ops 6. Movement sees smoother mantling, but slide acceleration and duration have been slightly reduced. Additionally, players can now re-roll one Daily Challenge per day, offering more flexibility in how they earn rewards.

A New Weapon Meta is Born

Shotguns Get a Complete Rework

Shotguns are undergoing a fundamental change to their damage model. They now feature two damage values: a base damage applied once per shot that hits, and individual pellet damage. This system is designed to create more consistent performance and prevent extreme damage spikes, making shotguns feel more reliable without being frustrating to play against.

Assault Rifles and SMGs See Major Tuning

The weapons that dominated the beta have not escaped the patch. SMGs have had their effective damage range pulled back across the board to better define their role as close-quarters specialists. Several assault rifles, including the popular M15 MOD 0, have also received damage range adjustments. Dozens of attachments that improve damage range, recoil control, and movement speed have been slightly toned down to prevent overly powerful builds.

Multiplayer and Zombies Refinements

Beyond weapon tuning, the patch delivers widespread improvements to the overall game. Multiplayer maps like Exposure and Cortex have updated spawn points and objective locations to improve flow. Several Perks have been combined to create more meaningful choices, such as Gearhead now including Quartermaster benefits. In Zombies, a critical bug that reduced bullet penetration has been fixed, and damage multipliers for higher-tier Pack-a-Punched weapons have been increased to ensure viability in later rounds.
