Zara McDermott Speaks Out on "Strictly" Experience

Reality star and presenter Zara McDermott has publicly addressed her experience on "Strictly Come Dancing," following the departure of her former professional partner, Graziano Di Prima. McDermott, who appeared on the show last year, shared her story on social media, detailing a difficult time in the training room that contrasted with the positive aspects of the "Strictly" experience.

McDermott, who is known for her work on "Love Island" and documentaries, stated that participating in "Strictly" was a lifelong dream. She was "fully prepared" for the demanding nature of the show and dedicated herself to it. She praised the production team, fellow contestants, and the "magical" aspects of the show itself.

However, McDermott revealed that her experience within the training room differed significantly from the overall "Strictly" experience. She expressed distress over reports about her treatment during the show, stating that there were witnesses and videos documenting "particular incidents."

McDermott acknowledged the fear she felt speaking out, citing potential public backlash, concerns for her future, and the fear of victim-shaming. However, after discussing the situation with loved ones, she found the strength to address these fears and speak candidly with the BBC about her time on the show.

She expressed her concern about the cultural climate surrounding speaking up, particularly in a world where social media can amplify negativity. She drew upon her experiences working on documentaries with women, who often face similar challenges.

McDermott thanked the BBC for their swift response and unwavering support in this matter. She also expressed gratitude for the messages of support she received from her followers.

Di Prima, who joined "Strictly" in 2018, shared a statement on Instagram explaining his decision to leave the show. He acknowledged that his "intense passion and determination to win" may have impacted his training methods and concluded that it was best for him to step away from the show.

The BBC confirmed Di Prima's departure and reiterated their commitment to robust duty of care procedures. They also emphasized their seriousness in addressing any concerns raised and taking swift action as necessary.

Another professional dancer, Giovanni Pernice, has also left the show amid allegations about his teaching methods. Pernice has denied allegations of "abusive or threatening behaviour" and is currently cooperating with a BBC investigation.

"Strictly Come Dancing" is set to return for its 20th anniversary in the autumn.
